No immediate possibility of holding talks: ULFA

March 31, 2010 05:40 pm | Updated 05:40 pm IST - Tezpur (Assam)

The ULFA on Wednesday said there was no immediate possibility of holding talks with the government as the atmosphere was “not conducive“.

“The atmosphere is not conducive for talks and there is no immediate possibility of dialogue,” ULFA ideologue Bhimakanta Buragohain said.

“I have discussed the issue with senior leaders, including Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa in Guwahati Jail, but no progress has been made so far,” Buragohain, who was produced before the Sonitpur Fast Track Sessions Court here, said.

He was shifted to the Guwahati Central Jail from Tezpur earlier this year to apparently allow the group’s top leadership, who are currently lodged there, to meet and discuss the issue of holding talks.

Buragohain was brought to Tezpur earlier today and produced before Additional District Sessions Judge M. Ziaul Haque in connection with a case related to the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

The judge directed that he be reproduced before the court on April 12.
