Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday renewed his demand for a Rs 14,800 crore special package for reconstruction of the flood-ravaged Kosi belt and rehabilitation of the victims.
“We want the package as it has become necessary for the Kosi belt ravaged by floods,” he said here.
The demand was made barely a couple of days after his meeting with Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, who during his Bihar visit promised to look into it.
“It is unfortunate that even a year after the tragedy that befell the people of Bihar, the Centre has not come forward with the package,” Mr. Kumar said.
Mr. Kumar also condemned the blowing up of railway tracks by Maoists which led to the derailment of Tata-Bilaspur passenger train in Jharkhand on Thursday.
“Railways unite India and it should be protected at all costs,” he added.
