Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar welcomed the passage of the Lokpal Bill in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

“The demand for Lokpal has been under consideration since 1968. Measures have been taken in light of this long-standing issue. It should have happened much earlier. Nevertheless, the fact that it has happened today is a welcome step,” Mr. Kumar said.

In Bihar, a bill for setting up a strong Lokayukta was passed much earlier. “All the officials, right from the Chief Minister to the lowest rung government functionary, are in the ambit of Lokayukta. So it’s good that now everyone has come under the ambit of the Lokpal as well,” he said.
