Nitish announces setting-up of 10,000 women’s SHGs

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday announced that the government would constitute 10,000 self-help groups of women with a view to make them economically stronger.

Making the announcement on the floor of the State Assembly during the ongoing budget session, Mr. Kumar said his government was committed to the safety and security of women. The State had taken the lead in ushering in 50 per cent reservation in local bodies to ensure women’s representation in the political sphere.

The Chief Minister said the SHGs would be formed over the next five years. His announcement was welcomed with applause in the House.
