The Centre has approved nine tourism infrastructure projects worth Rs. 97.50 crore on as priority for Rajasthan for 2014-15. These projects are part of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) of the Union Tourism Ministry.
Among the prioritised projects is the development of a Mega Desert Circuit (Jaisalmer-Jodhpur-Bikaner-Sambhar-Pali-Mount Abu) to the tune of Rs 50 crore; Sawai Madhopur-Karauli; Sahelion ki Baoli at Udaipur; and Hadoti Circuit by connecting Jhalawar-Baran-Bundi.
Importantly, the projects include the development of Dholpur as a tourist destination. The State government has an ambitious plan of a light and sound programme at Machkund, development of Talab Shahi and a cruise in the Chambla river. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s home is in Dholpur.
The Centre has also sanctioned Rs 50 lakh for the organisation of festivals, according to Sanjay Pande, additional director, Department of Tourism.
It may be recalled in 2013-14, eleven CSS projects worth Rs. 57 crore were approved for Rajasthan. The first installment of Rs. 12.35 crore has already been received by the State government last month.
