NIA opposes bail for Pragnya Thakur

February 05, 2013 07:55 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 04:56 am IST - Mumbai:

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday opposed the bail application of Sadhvi Pragnya Singh Thakur, accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blasts case.

Sadhvi Pragnya had sought bail on medical grounds to undergo treatment after she was diagnosed with cancer last year.

Earlier, Sadhvi Pragnya had refused to undergo treatment while in police custody and sought to be released on bail first. The NIA had offered to get her admitted to the Tata Memorial Hospital here.

NIA counsel Rohini Salian informed the court that the agency was opposing Sadhvi Pragnya’s bail plea as it lacked merit. Justice R.C. Chavan posted the application for final hearing on February 13.
