April 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:13 am IST - Bhopal:

City-based NGO Raahat on Sunday demanded that the Madhya Pradesh government get speed governors installed in vehicles in order to check the high rate of deaths, which was 9,292 in the State in 2014.

A total of 39,698 road accidents took place resulting in injuries to 41,204 persons while claiming 9,292 lives in M.P. as per the National Crime Records Bureau, Raahat chairman Kamaljit Soi said in a press release.

According to some recent surveys and newspaper reports, one of the major reasons for road accidents was high speed of commercial vehicles on highways, Soi, also a member of National Road Council, Ministry of Road Transport and Highway, stated.

“The most effective way to reduce this alarming statistics is to reduce speed on the roads. If we all go slow, our chances of being killed or seriously injured on the road would drastically decrease.”

The government should start procuring speed governors and get them installed in vehicles, especially commercial to reduce the number of accidents. - PTI
