New Tripura government on March 6

March 02, 2013 03:04 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:20 pm IST - AGARTALA:

A new Left Front (LF) government, headed by Manik Sarkar, will assume office in Tripura on March 6. Governor D.Y. Patil will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the elected members.

LF convener Khagen Das said the decision was taken at a meeting of LF constituents comprising the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and the Forward Bloc.

The CPI(M) won 49 seats to establish a landslide over the Congress, which bagged just 10 seats in the 60-member Assembly. The RSP and the Forward Bloc, and two tribal parties that forged a poll alliance with the Congress drew a blank.

The CPI contested in two seats and won one. The party would get a ministerial berth in the seventh LF government. Left leaders indicated that the new ministry would accommodate a few new faces.
