New Congress chief in Tripura

January 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 11:05 am IST - Agartala:

The AICC has appointed senior leader and MLA Birajit Sinha as president of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) in an apparent move to strengthen party organisation in the Left-ruled State. Current head of the State’s erstwhile royal Manikya dynasty Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has been made TPCC working president alongside incumbent working president Ashish Kumar Saha.

Mr Sinha replaces Dibachandra Hrangkhwal -- first tribal elevated to the post in a reshuffle after party’s debacle in 2013 Assembly polls. The AICC decision provides two working presidents under the new TPCC chief.

“I have received letter of appointment this afternoon,” Birajit Sinha told The Hindu . He said he would help build a strong organisation.
