The Centre has assured a delegation of Northeastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC) comprising Power ministers of four northeastern States that the recent hike in natural gas price would be reviewed, Tripura Power Manik Dey said on Friday.
A NERPC delegation comprising the Power ministers of Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland met the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas minister Murli Deora and Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on August 25 to demand review in the hike of price of natural gas, Mr. Dey said here.
The NERPC delegation told both the Union ministers that 50 per cent of the power generated in the northeast region was from natural gas and the hike in price of natural gas from Rs. 2,112 per cubic metre to Rs. 5,152 would affect the people, as the cost of power generation would rise.
“The hike in prices of petroleum not only affected power generation, but industrial development in the region also,” he alleged.
Mr. Dey said, both the Union Ministers gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured to do something positive.
