Nepotism once again proved costly for the Congress in Assam. In the recent Assembly elections, the party fielded 33 candidates related to Congress leaders of whom only one has won.
In March, when the CWC in Delhi selected the first batch of candidates for the State, the local leadership in Assam warned that if the blue-eyed candidates were not replaced, the campaign would take a hit.
The party vice-president in Assam, Bhagirath Karan, said he and his colleagues protested against the move but the high command refused to change the list.
