May 28, 2014 06:15 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 06:51 pm IST - MUMBAI:

Following the >poll debacle in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has decided to replace two of its Ministers in the State cabinet.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new Ministers is likely to be held on Thursday morning. According to the party sources, executive president of NCP’s state unit, Jitendra Awhad will be inducted in the Cabinet in place of Vijaykumar Gavit, the Medical Education minister. Mr. Gavit was asked to resign, prior to the elections, after his daughter Hina Gavit decided to contest as the BJP candidate from Nandurbar Lok Sabha constituency.

Ms. Gavit defeated the Congress veteran and 10 time MP Manikrao Gavit. The Congress suffered its first loss in Nandurbar since Independence. Minister of state for school education, Fauzia Khan will also be replaced by Sharad Gavit, said sources. The party leadership was unhappy with Ms. Khan after her alleged non-cooperation to the party candidate from Parbhani Lok Sabha constituency.
