NCP demands CBI probe into Isha Mantry’s death at EDM

Arguing that the Goa government and police cannot be trusted to probe the death of Bollywood designer Isha Mantry at the venue of the on-going EDM at Candolim, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday demanded a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to bring out the truth.

Close on the heels of Congress’s allegation that the death was due to drug overdose, the NCP too alleged that the death was due to drug overdose. NCP also alleged that this proved the government machinery had failed to keep the EDMs free of drugs despite claims.

Addressing presspersons at the city office of NCP, party chief spokesperson Trajano D’Mello recalled, that in his public interest litigation filed on December 16 before the Bombay High Court at Goa, he had prayed for an immediate hearing of his petition seeking a stay on the EDM festivals. However, after the intervention of State Advocate General, A. N. S. Nadkarni reassuring that the guidelines already issued for maintenance of law and order and the conditions of permissions issued for such events will be strictly complied with, the matter was posted by the Court for January 12.

Mr. D’Mello also recalled that while pleading before the Court to give a stay on the EDMs being held simultaneously in north coastal belt, he recalled that he had also demanded an immediate judicial inquiry into the earlier incident of death of Neha Bahuguna of Bengaluru, suspected to be by drug overdose at one of the EDM venues three years back.

Further, he had prayed to the Court to grant a judicial inquiry into the file notings of the then Chief Minister expressing apprehensions last year about allegations of drug use at such EDMs and grant of direction to such judicial authority to also probe statements made by north Goa Superintendent of Police last year that music festival is being fuelled on account of drug use.

Following the latest incident of death of a Mumbai girl, Mr. D’Mello said he cannot trust the local government to do justice to the probe and as such he was demanding a probe by CBI.
