Naxals kill ex-commander in Gadchiroli

A group of Maoists shot dead a former Dalam Commander in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, police said today.

The incident took place in Aarewada village of Bhamragarh taluka yesterday when Pawan Kumar Bhalawi (50), was proceeding towards his farm. The Maoists fired five bullets, killing him on the spot, they said.

In 1992, Bhalawi, who served as a Commander of Salekasa Dalam (Bhandara) for some time, and his wife Girija, were arrested by Bhandara police.

Later, his wife was elected to Panchayat Samiti and was serving in Gadchiroli, police added.
