A scuffle broke out between Congress and NCP workers on Sunday over bogus voting during election to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), prompting police to baton charge and detain 25 people.
The clash broke out at Sanpada voting centre in the satellite city after both NCP and Congress activists alleged that bogus voting had taken place during the polls, a police official said.
Twenty-five people have been detained for rioting and bogus voting, he said.
The Congress and NCP, allies at the State and the Centre, are fighting the election in the city separately.
Navi Mumbai is considered to be a stronghold of Excise Minister and NCP leader Ganesh Naik, who is aiming to bring his party to power in the 89-member body for the third time.
Besides Shiv Sena-BJP, Raj Thackeray-led MNS, Samajwadi Party and the Republican Party of India (RPI)-Left combine are also in the fray.
Along with Navi Mumbai, Aurangabad Municipal Corporation and Badlapur-Kulgaon and Ambernath Councils also went to the polls on Sunday.
