Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal president Naveen Patnaik on Friday suspended Rajya Sabha member and dissident leader Pyarimohan Mohapatra and two legislators from his party, and also sacked two Ministers for raising the banner of revolt against him.
The Chief Minister made this announcement before the media at the Secretariat after holding discussions with Ministers, legislators and Members of Parliament of his party at his residence during the day.
Mr. Patnaik said he had forwarded a letter to Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare requesting him to dismiss Women and Child Development Minister Anjali Behera and Commerce and Transport Minister Sanjeeb Kumar Sahoo.
The two legislators suspended were Prabhat Biswal and Bibhuti Balabantray, the Chief Minister said.
Mr. Patnaik also met several legislators who went to Mr. Mohapatra's residence on May 29 evening to revolt against his leadership, when Mr. Patnaik was away on a trip to London.
Several legislators reportedly told Mr. Patnaik that they had been asked to put their signatures on a paper to choose Mr. Mohapatra as the new leader of the BJD Legislature Party.
The dissidents' attempt to replace Mr. Patnaik failed as Mr. Mohapatra was unable to organise the support of adequate number of legislators at the last minute. At least three Ministers and 30 legislators had attended the meeting at Mr. Mohapatra's residence.
As soon as the news about the revolt against Mr. Patnaik's leadership spread on Tuesday, many of his Ministers and legislators gathered at Mr. Patnaik's residence to express their support for the Chief Minister. As many as 94 legislators put their signatures in support of Mr. Patnaik before he returned to the State on Thursday evening.

Mr Patnail is one of the cleanest and honest leader in Indian Politics.I appreciate his firm action in removing the dissidents. They may join congress npow. I wish BJP should also show the door to the dissidents and power hugry leaders in their party. However political leadership in power should not be arrogant like congress party.
I believe that the revolt in Orrisa was more driven by congress to get numbers for their Presidential nominee. It has failed now but the congress would continue to de stabilise the Patnaik government in Orrisa.
This is the real face of democratic dictators of India. Look how swiftly and decisively he took decision and secured his 'Kursi'. And when it comes to national security and NCTC he played cheap politics by pretending of rights of states and consensus. Why not rights of dissidents and consensus now ? These politicians will do anything to cling to power and a curse for India.
Now it will crystallize as regards to who is the boss.
Btw who let the dogs out... bhoo...bhoo..bhooo
It is a good decision and I can see there are a lot of Odiyas are being
happy with CM's final decision.
Good job Naveen. Pyari was running a parallel govt in his residence and it is good to see actions being taken against him as well as 4 others. There were also more members who need to be thrown out.
No place for insurgent.BJP should learn from Naveen and fire those who
are making noise against the party for personal gain.
Very stong decision taken by MR Naveen Patnaik...you r the real hero of odisha sir ji...hats of to you...............
strong decision by a bold personality.....hats off u sir ji...u r d real hero of odisha...BJD jindabad..Naveen babu amar rahe
Mr.Pyari was trying to be the new CM of the state.A good kick by Mr.Naveen Pattnaik,Now Pyari will either stop dreaming about politics or join BJP/Congress to raise voice against the ruling govt....Great decision.
Dissidence is the very essence of democracy. It is a sad commentary
that political parties in India are centred around an individual. All
others in the party or ministerial positions owe it to that
individual.Had these dissidents have the clout to challenge the
authority of that individual, they flout a separate party of their
own.
Sixty years of living free had not thought our countrymen the basics
of democracy-party is supreme.
Had Smt.Indira Gandhi not broken the congress to suit her political
interests, Indians would have known the nuances of democracy in these
years.Alas,that is not the case.
Good decision.
Have to cling on to power at all costs and no room for dissidents in a democracy. What is the difference between Indian politicians and all those dictators who were thrown out by Arab spring?
