Frustrated with the Congress’s rout in the Lok Sabha polls and the unlikelihood of a leadership change in the State, Industries Minister Narayan Rane seems to be indicating an open rebellion.
“I will announce my decision in the next two or three days. It is no secret that I am unhappy. I have written to the party leadership after the poll results giving my analysis on the reasons,” Mr. Rane told The Hindu . He held a meeting with party legislators loyal to him on Tuesday.
Mr. Rane resigned from the Cabinet immediately after the results, in an attempt to pressure Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to quit. His son, sitting MP Nilesh Rane from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurgh lost the polls, which he saw as a personal setback.
Mr. Rane succeeded Manohar Joshi as Chief Minister of Maharashtra in 1999 when he was in the Shiv Sena.
