The Nagaland government and the mass-based civil societies on Friday resolved to work together to facilitate an early solution to the vexed Naga Political Issue (NPI).
Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang in the presence of Assembly Speaker Chotisuh Sazo told reporters a decision was taken on Friday in the follow-up to the consensus of the five-point resolution on July 27 last which had reiterated the earlier resolutions of Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 1964, 1970, 1994 and 2003 and urged the Centre to act on it.
Forum for Naga Reconciliation, Naga Hoho, Eastern Naga Peoples’ Organisation, Naga Mothers’ Association, Naga Students’ Federation and the organisations of the fourteen Naga tribes participated in the meeting.
The present resolution reiterated all the past resolutions which had called for integration of all contiguous Naga-inhabited areas under one administrative umbrella.
The House also urged the Centre and the NSCN(K) to resume the ceasefire to create a more peaceful and congenial atmosphere for the dialogue and called upon the Centre to withdraw the declaration of the whole of State as disturbed area under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958.
The House urged all Naga nationalist groups and civil societies to unite and work for the early settlement of the issue so that permanent peace reigned in the land.
Further, the civil society groups at today’s meeting endorsed the House resolution to call upon the Centre to expedite the Naga political dialogue and to chalk out a formula for early resolution of the Naga political issue, Zeliang said. - PTI
