Even as the National Democratic Alliance government looks set to secure the exit of Governors appointed by the United Progressive Alliance government, Nagaland Governor Ashwani Kumar on Friday said he did not receive any communication from the Centre to step down but was ready to do so, if asked.

“No one has asked me. But if any order comes, I will follow it,” Mr. Kumar, a former Central Bureau of Investigation Director, told reporters after meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. He also called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the meeting was described as a “courtesy call.”

Taking the hint from the Centre, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Governors B.L. Joshi and Shekhar Dutt have already put in their papers.
