A case has been registered against 85 persons, including a Khap council head and his two sons, for their alleged involvement in the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas.

The case was registered on Saturday after some riots victims filed a complaint, alleging that their houses at Lisadh village in Fugana area were burnt during the communal violence, police said.

The 85 accused, including Khap council head Baba Harikishan Singh and his two sons, have been booked under section 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups) 395 (punishment for dacoity), Section 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc) of the IPC, police said.

No arrest has been mad so far.

Communal violence had erupted in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas after three persons were killed in Kawal village on August 27 over an eve-teasing incident.
