In a bizarre turn to the Jalaun double murder case, two sisters from the district’s Orai town, who were declared dead after their bodies were identified by their parents a few days ago, were found alive in Ghaziabad on Wednesday.

The police have now arrested the parents and two others with whom the girls were found living in Ghaziabad.

Identified as Gaurav Chaturvedi and Atul Gupta, the duo have been charged with kidnapping and murder, senior police officials said. Police had kept the mobile phones of the two sisters under surveillance and had managed to track them.

The police are now trying to ascertain the identity of the girls who were cremated, and have sought the help of forensic experts.

Parents of the girls have been arrested for misleading the police. They had claimed that their daughters were kidnapped on September 22. But police now say the two girls had eloped with their lovers and allegedly married them. Following the recovery of the bodies in the Noon river on October 4, agitated residents created ruckus in Orai and threw bricks at the police, injuring many.

The State government subsequently suspended the Superintendent of Police and four other police officers.
