Mumbai woman bus conductor stripped

June 05, 2014 12:03 am | Updated 12:03 am IST - MUMBAI:

A woman conductor with the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation was assaulted and stripped allegedly by a passenger after she intervened in a heated argument between him and the bus driver on Wednesday.

The accused, Abhishek Singh, 30, boarded the bus at Dombivli, on the outskirts of Mumbai, around 8.30 a.m. to go to Panvel in Raigad district. The police said the driver reprimanded him for boarding the bus from the wrong end. The conductor asked Singh not to abuse the driver as he was an elderly person. An irked Singh allegedly assaulted her and ripped her clothes off. The bus had halted at a bus stop when the attack took place.

Narrating her ordeal to presspersons, the victim said: “He dragged me out of the bus and ripped off my clothes and began kicking me. Initially, none of the passengers intervened as they just watched while I was being hit and my clothes were being torn off. Later, a group of students who were on the bus intervened and stopped him.”

Singh has been booked for molestation, hurt and threat. He has been arrested and will be produced in court for demand of custody.
