The local Mumbai court on Thursday rejected the application filed by arrested bookie Ramesh Vyas, where he claimed his present detention in Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail as illegal. Vyas will be presented in Delhi court on Friday as the Delhi police have sought his custody to question him in relation with ongoing spot fixing probe.
Vyas was arrested by Mumbai crime branch last month and have been probing him in relation with the betting scandal. The Delhi police have already submitted the production warrant of Vyas, whom they suspect to be involved in the spot-fixing scandal.
According to the application filed by Vyas, he was illegally detained in the jail despite the court granting him bail. The jail superintendent informed the court about his production warrant from Delhi, as per which he will have to be taken to Delhi on June 7.
Meanwhile, the police custody of Ashwin Agrawal alias Tinku Delhi, along with two others has been extended till June 10. The court observed that there is sufficient ground exists for police custody of all three bookies who are requested to be questioned by Mumbai police in the betting scandal.
The prosecution had sought police custody of Tinku Delhi, Kishor Badalani and Paresh Bhatia on the ground that further investigation was necessary. Two more bookies Kishore Pabalani and Dinesh Sharma were sent to judicial custody.
Kiran Bendbar, the prosecution lawyer told the court that since the Delhi police have applied MCOCA in the case they are probing, the Mumbai police also want to probe further and hence require police custody of the accused.
Advocate Tarun Sharma, appearing for Tinku Delhi said that he has already been probed by Delhi police and there is a fight for supremacy between Delhi and Mumbai police.
The court while granting the police custody observed that the perusal of case diary gives an idea of the offences that are likely to come up. “To hold otherwise at this stage would rather amount to denial of fair opportunity to investigating agency to make a detailed probe,” the court said.
