The death toll in the Mumbai serial blasts of July 13 went up to 25 on Thursday after a victim injured in the Opera House blast died of his injuries at 2 a.m. in Saifee Hospital here on Thursday.

Vallabhbhai Gharia (48) had suffered a compound fracture after the blast, doctors at the hospital said. “We amputated his right leg yesterday [Wednesday], but suddenly his condition deteriorated and we lost him,” a doctor said.

The doctors said delay in permission from the family members turned to be fatal. “The treatment for the wound was going on. But he had developed gangrene,” a doctor said.

The body was handed over to the police for post mortem. J J Hospital Dean Tatyarao Lahane told The Hindu that a post-mortem was done in the morning, but the body would remain in the morgue for two days. “Some of the relatives of the deceased are to come from a foreign country,” he said.
