Faced with a complete shutdown on the first day of the Durbar in the summer capital, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Tuesday said restoration of flood-damaged infrastructure and improvement of roads were his government’s first priority.
Shops and business establishments in Srinagar remained closed on Tuesday as Kashmir traders’ body called for a shutdown in protest against the failure of the PDP-BJP government to rehabilitate the merchants affected by the September 2014 floods.
Comes under criticismThe PDP and the BJP, which slammed the former National Conference-Congress government for lack of response to the flood-affected sections, have come under severe criticism for being “completely absent on the ground” and trying to “manage perceptions in the media.”
