Mridula Sinha was sworn in as the Governor of Goa at a simple ceremony held at Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan near Panaji on Sunday morning.
Responding to a question from a journalist seeking her views on Goa’s major social concerns like gambling and alcohol addiction, during interaction with the presspersons immediately after the swearing-in ceremony, the newly-appointed Governor promised to study the problems of gambling and alcohol addiction in Goa.
Earlier, Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Justice Mohit Shantilal Shah administered the oath of office to her. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was present on the dais.
Ms. Sinha, a social worker, also said that she would work for the welfare of the poor, women, children and families in Goa.
The renowned writer in Hindi, Ms. Sinha disclosed that she was working on the biography of Mandodari, wife of Ravana. "It will be out in about two months," she said.
Besides Chief Minister, the swearing in ceremony was attended by Union Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge) Shripad Naik, Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Rajendra Arlekar, Deputy Chief
Minister Francis D’ Souza, Cabinet Ministers and others.
