Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Satyadev Katare has taken a dig at Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat over scams in the Professional Education Board (PEB).
In a letter sent on Sunday, the concluding day of the four-day convention of RSS activists of the central region, Mr. Katare of the Congress asked Mr. Bhagwat to convince Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan to hand over the probe into the education and recruitment scams in the PEB to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
As many as 1,000 government servants and 153 medicos were selected through fraudulent means for which senior PEB officials and an Officer on Special Duty to a former BJP minister have been arrested.
Mr. Katare wrote: “...Shivraj Chouhan has cleverly not only linked you to the PEB scam but also blackened your face by organising your meeting for three days on the premises of a person accused of participation in the scam.”
The RSS meeting was organised at the Lakshmi Narain College of Technology. One of the directors of the institution, Anupam Chowksey, is the main accused in the Dental and Medical Admission Test scam.
He said the several senior RSS supporters like Ajay Shankar Mehta, vice president of the Jan Abhiyan Parishad, were being probed for their role in the PEB and other scams.
Dr. Mehta’s manager Harshit Shrivastava was recently arrested for his alleged involvement in the Sanskrit Board scam. Mehta’s firm printed question papers and processed mark sheets for the Board. His firm, Automated Trusted Solutions, is accused of selling pass certificates to at least 600 students.
“Sometimes I wonder what direction Tarun Vijay’s character gives to the RSS’ character-building,” Mr. Katare added. BJP Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vijay is a senior RSS leader who was questioned during the probe into the murder of RTI activist Shelha Masood in Bhopal in 2011.
He concluded by asking Bhagwat to take the ruling party to task for spoiling the image of the RSS and the government. On the concluding day of the RSS convention, approximately 1200 staff wielding swayamsevaks in black side caps, white shirts and khaki shorts marched through the city. Mr. Bhagwat also met with women from various occupational groups in the city.
