September 16, 2014 11:38 pm | Updated 11:38 pm IST - NEW DELHI/BHOPAL

A day after Professor J.L. Kaul, Vice-Chancellor, Vikram University, Ujjain, was allegedly attacked by Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists for issuing an appeal to help students whose families have been affected by the floods in Jammu and Kashmir, the Madhya Pradesh Education Minister on Tuesday threw his weight behind the V-C.

“I was in my office when they came in and broke things. All I asked for was help for the students whose families have been affected by the floods,” Prof. Kaul told The Hindu from Ujjain. “The students needed assistance and approached me, and I issued an appeal. Now the Education Minister has also passed an order to help them.”

The police have arrested two persons in connection with the incident.
