April 30, 2013 02:10 am | Updated June 10, 2016 11:30 am IST - Nagpur:

The four-year-old rape victim from Madhya Pradesh died in a hospital here on Monday.

She was raped in Ghansur town of Sioni district of Madhya Pradesh on April 17 and abandoned in a crematorium in an unconscious condition, police said.

P.S. Shriram, administrator of the Care Hospital in Nagpur where the child was being treated, said the child died at 7.45 pm on Monday after a cardiac arrest. “The doctors tried hard to save her, but did not succeed,” he said.

The child was airlifted to Nagpur on April 20 when her condition deteriorated in a Jabalpur hospital where she was taken initially.

In a medical bulletin at 6 p.m. on Monday, the doctors of the Care Hospital had informed the media that the child was “sinking.” She suffered gross damage to her brain caused by an attempted smothering, which reduced its functioning to an abnormal level. But the doctors were hopeful as her haemodynamic condition (blood flow from the heart to the other parts of the body) remained stable till Sunday evening.

She continued to be on ventilator till she breathed her last.

Her body has been sent to the Government Medical Collage in Nagpur for the post mortem, said Mr. Shriram.
