A four year-old girl, who was raped in Ghansur town in Sioni district of Madhya Pradesh on April 17, was brought to Nagpur on Saturday night in a critical condition.

“The condition of the four year old child, who was found unconscious in a field in Ghansur town of MP, is still critical. She is totally unconscious from the time she was brought to Nagpur. We have done all the examinations including MRI brain and EEG which indicates gross damage to her brain. Her brain’s functioning has reduced to an abnormal level. This is hypoxic brain damage which means inability of brain to work due lack of oxygen supply” Dr. Ashok Tank of the Care hospital in Nagpur, where the four year old is being treated, told the media in the third press bulletin of day at 6 pm.

The girl had gone missing on April 17 from her home in Ghansur town. Her parents lodged a police complaint on the same day. She was found in an unconscious condition near a crematorium in the town on the next day, said the police.

Initially, she was admitted in a hospital in Jabalpur but was air lifted to Nagpur on Saturday night when her situation deteriorated. The brain damage may have caused due to attempted smothering, informed Dr.Tank.

“She has been put on a life support system and is being treated by a team of senior doctors. Nothing else can be said about her situation now" added Dr.Tank.

Police have identified the accused as Firoz Khan (35), a native of Bihar, who worked as a laborer in Jhabua Power Plant in Ghansur.

Police have also arrested co accused Rakesh Choudhary for taking the four year old to Firoz Khan.

“But the co accused had left the place before the crime was committed. We have sent six police teams in search of Firoz Khan and he will be nabbed soon” the Superintendent of Police (SP) Sioni district Mr.Mithilesh Shukla told The Hindu .

The accused and the victim’s family knew each other quite well and this is how the accused may have taken the victim with him without any efforts, said some police sources.

According to Ghansur Police Inspector Ramdas Warthi, a case under section 363,366 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused and police teams have been sent to as far as Bihar and Delhi in search of Firoz Khan.

“My Daughter has not opened her eyes since last four days. I want to see her open her eyes” said the shattered mother of the four year old.

The MP state government is bearing all the expenditure for the victim’s treatment and the District Magistrate (DM) of Sioni, Mr.Bharat Yadav visited the victim’s family in Nagpur hospital and assured them of “all possible help” apart from the already declared financial relief of Rs.2 Lakh to the victim's family .

The state government had also arranged for an air ambulance on Saturday night when the victim’s condition deteriorated.

Sioni town observed a Bandh in protest of this brutal rape on Saturday and some students organised a candle march on Sunday.
