Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu on Saturday conducted an aerial survey of the flood-hit Dibang valley district, which has remained isolated for the last three months after torrential rain disrupted surface communication.
Accompanied by Power Minister Jarbom Gamlin, Finance Minister Setong Sena, MLAs Rajesh Tacho and Karikho Kri and officials, Mr. Khandu inspected the vital blockage points, washed away RCC bridges, damaged hydel projects and landslip block points on the Roing-Anini road stretch.
Addressing a gathering at Anini, Mr. Khandu said considering the exigency, the State government approved nine additional ration sorties, taking the tally to 18 sorties. He said the government would approve more sorties as per the Deputy Commissioner's request.
The Chief Minister said he had taken up the matter of restoring road communication with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
The State government has sanctioned Rs. 6 lakhs for life-saving medicines, and an additional Rs. 5 lakh would be sanctioned.
He also promised to send a team of doctors and para-medical staff to assess the threat of diseases, in response to the memorandum placed by the people of Anini, an official release said.
Mr. Khandu also assured an increase of ration air sorties to the interior circle headquarters, asking the DC to prepare a requisition detail.
Anini MLA Rajesh Tacho appealed to the Chief Minister to take steps to declare the district a disaster-prone zone and take it up with the Central government.
He also requested the setting up of an Army Brigade in the district.
