More named in Dadri lynching case

The six persons are close to Sanjay Rana, local BJP leader, whose son is an accused.

Shaista, daughter of Mohammad Akhlaq, who was lynched by a violen mob in Dadri village over rumours of eating beef in September, on Wednesday named six more people as being part of the mob.

Local police officials are investigating their involvement in the case.

According to sources in the local police, the six persons are close to Sanjay Rana, the local BJP leader, whose son Vishal and nephew Shivam are accused of creating the rumours and gathering the mob which lynched Akhlaq.

“She gave a statement before the local magistrate in which she pointed out about six more people who were part of the mob. We are trying to investigate and verify their roles,” local police officials told The Hindu .

A large number of people, who were believed to be part of the mob, are on the run.

“These six may be part of a large number of boys who are on the run and are not in the village. We will have to make raids and detain them initially for interrogation to find out their exact roles in the brutal attack which killed Akhlaq,” an official said.

Meanwhile, the younger son of Akhlaq, Danish, who was also brutally assaulted by the mob, was shifted from the army hospital to the official quarters of his elder brother Sartaj in Dhaula Kuan for further recovery. Sartaj, who works as a technician in the Air Force, said that Danish was recovering but the process would take some time.

“Doctors said that Danish got the best treatment and he is on the path to recovery. But he required a healing touch and the emotional support of his family members to recover fully. That is why we decided to shift him here at my official quarters,” Sartaj said.

Charge sheet deadline ends on Dec.28

The three-month deadline for filing the charge sheet ends on December 28. The Dadri police are waiting to record Danish’s statement in order to submit the charge sheet, but his slow recovery may delay the investigation process.

“He is able to walk but has problem in talking. His skull was broken and he had to undergo a major surgery. That is why doctors prohibited reminding him of the mob attack. Right now, he doesn’t even know that his father was killed in the attack,” said Sartaj.

“On the one hand, the police have to take his statement, but on the other hand, doctors have asked us not to remind him of the incident as he may not be able to bear the shock. But, we cannot also skip the 90-day deadline to submit the charge sheet in the court. So, let’s see how we will be able to do this,” a visibly worried Sartaj said.
