The city received its first spell of monsoon rainfall on Sunday, 24 hours after the monsoon wind got active here and in adjoining districts, said the Regional Meteorological Centre here.

The seasonal rains are expected to be active over all the districts in the next 72 hours.

“The monsoon arrived almost on time and the rainfall is expected to be normal in Kolkata.” said G.K. Das, a senior Meteorologist at the Regional Meteorological Centre. The rains during the day resulted in a fall in the temperature much to the relief of the residents, who bore sweltering heat over the past weeks.
