Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha member from Aurangabad and industrialist Rajkumar Dhoot has been charged with molesting a 40-year-old woman.

The woman moved court stating that the police did not entertain her complaint. The court directed the police to register her complaint and submit a report.

Mr. Dhoot is the Managing Director of Videocon Industries and president of Assocham.

Inspector Chakre of the Mukundwadi police station, where the case was registered on Tuesday night, said Mr. Dhoot had been booked under Section 354 (assault and molestation of woman).

“We cannot arrest an MP without proof. We have started the investigation,” inspector Y.C. Chakre told The Hindu.

Police said the woman, a mother of two, had alleged that Mr. Dhoot molested and assaulted her, and attempted to rape her inside her house in Aurangabad on August 3. She had also accused him of threatening to kill her if she revealed the incident to others.

Mr. Chakre denied the woman’s allegations that the police refused to file a complaint. However, the court had warned of action against police officials if her charge was found to be true.

Mr. Dhoot could not be contacted.
