After backing Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray criticised the leader on Friday saying “The Modi wave has dissipated.”
Addressing the party’s youth wing, he said “You should not rely too much on the social media. It had raised Mr. Modi to great heights, but now the same social media is taking pot-shots at him.”
Mr. Thackeray even indicated that Mr Modi was seen as a leader who gave false assurances. “There is a joke that has been circulating. A man tells his wife that he will get her gold and diamonds. She shoots back by saying, “Don’t be a Modi,” Mr. Thackeray told the audience.
In the past, Mr. Thackeray has alternately praised and criticised Mr Modi. In 2011, he visited Gujarat as a State guest and lauded Mr. Modi’s development model. However later, he criticised the leader for his excessive focus on Gujarat.
