Accusing the Trinamool Congress government of causing more damage to the State in 35 months than the Left Front government in 35 years, the Bharatiya Janata Party prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi said that he will take strong action in the Saradha chit fund scam case if his party comes to power.
Addressing an election rally here in Hooghly district, he said Saradha was another name of Goddess of Wisdom “Saraswati”, but in West Bengal the Trinamool Congress had turned both the Goddess of Wisdom and wealth into Saradha chit fund.
“We did not expect this from you Mamataji,” Mr. Modi said, adding that at a personal level he had high regards for Ms. Banerjee.
“You have taken the same path of the Left parties, but have not left the habits of the Congress,” he said.
Mr. Modi alleged that both Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Ms. Banerjee shielded the accused in the chit fund scam.
The BJP leader said the Trinamool Congress chairperson was busy quarrelling for 24 hours a day. “Now you are Chief Minister Mamataji. The days of staging movement and protests are gone,” Mr Modi said.
He said people of the State had brought Ms. Banerjee to power with lot of hope, but she had strayed from the path.
Painting issueMr. Modi also raised the issue of a painting of Ms. Banerjee being sold at Rs. 1.8 crore and questioned who the buyer was. He said that the incident has brought her lot of disrepute.
Accusing Ms. Banerjee of indulging in vote-bank politics and discriminating between people of West Bengal and other States, he said the same government rolled out a red carpet to Bangladeshis. “After May 16, all Bangldeshis will have to pack their bags,” Mr Modi said.
