Days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled public meeting at Balasore, the Congress on Sunday launched a scathing attack alleging that the NDA government has failed on all fronts.

Addressing a press conference here, All-India Mahila Congress president Shobha Oza charged that the Narendra Modi was nothing but a good event manager. “The Modi government is spending Rs.27 lakh per day on events to hide its failure,” Ms. Oza said.

The Congress released a 62-page booklet ‘Sachhai Ka Aaina’, which documented the performance of the BJP-led the NDA government. The booklet claimed that 2,900 farmers were forced to commit suicide due to crop failure and the Modi government was not even ready to provide succour to them.

She said growth in job creation, industrial output and exports came to a halt while rural distress became acute under the Modi regime.

The BJP had promised to increase the Minimum Support Price (MSP) at the rate of cost of production along with 50 per cent profit, but after assuming power, it did not keep it.

Instead of giving confidence to investors, the Union government in its two-year rule had damaged the Indian economy and failed to take advantage of low crude oil prices.

Ms Oza said atrocities against women were increasing and the government had failed to ensure their safety.

Speaking on the occasion, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandan said the Naveen Patnaik government had been following in the footsteps of the Modi government. “The BJD government is spending Rs.10 lakh on publicity while its competency level in executing welfare programmes had gone down level,” he said.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to address a public meeting to highlight achievements of his government at Balasore on Thursday morning. “The Prime Minister is coming to Odisha with a message of development. The corrupt Congress believes in falsehood and has been spreading lies,” said BJP in-charge for Odisha Arun Singh.
