The Election Commission today sought report from the West Bengal government about alleged violation of model code of conduct by two ministers after the announcement of the poll schedule yesterday.

Without naming State Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta, who is reported to have signed hundreds of files on Tuesday alone, Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta said, “I have received complaints from a political party and an employees union about signing of files by a minister.

“I have asked for a report from the secretary concerned and if there is any violation of model code of conduct then strong action will be initiated” Gupta said.

Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh told reporters in Writers’ Building that he has not received any query from the CEO yet.

“If the CEO wants, we have to submit factual report to him,” Mr. Ghosh said.

Asked whether the Finance minister had signed 100 to 200 files, Mr. Ghosh said, “We have to enquire into it and if there is a specific complaint we will go into it.

“I have received a complaint from the leader of the Opposition Partha Chatterjee regarding this.”

In another developments, some reports alleged about State Environment Minister Sailen Sarkar distributing cycle in his constituency as part of campaign.

When asked about the incident, Mr. Gupta said, “We have sought report from the district administration and after the report comes in we will look into the matter.”
