Five days after five inmates escaped from the high security Nagpur central jail, jail authorities recovered 26 mobiles phones and 11 batteries from the inmates in a late night search on Friday.

The recovery took place just before the visit of Pravin Dikshit, the Director General of anti-corruption bureau, who is in Nagpur to inspect the jail.

Friday night’s recovery has only added to the problems of the police department and State home department, which is under attack for alleged neglect of jail that houses some of the most dreaded criminals and terrorists including the 1993 Mumbai serial blast convict Yakub Memon, German bakery blast accused Himayat Baig and underworld don Arun Gawali.

Three jail officials, ncluding jail superintendent Vaibhav Kamble, have been suspended in the jail break case.

According sources, neighboring Amravati district jail Superintendent Dhole has been given additional responsibility of Nagpur jail.
