Mob torches police station

Incensed over alleged police inaction, a mob torched a police station in Mohania city in Bihar's Kaimur district on Tuesday following the murder of a local trader on Monday night.

Police said the Superintendent of Police had visited the spot following the killing and the body was sent for post-mortem.

However, people gathered around the police station in the morning, shouting slogans about alleged police tardiness in apprehending the killers of the trader. ADG (Headquarters) Rajyavardhan Sharma said the mob set fire to a couple of private vehicles, a fire brigade van, and proceeded to torch the police station. They refused to be pacified by the station inspector's reassurances on the investigation.

Police said the crowd did not disperse even after they were teargassed, so the police fired in the air.
