Nagaland Home Minister Y. Patton has said that rape of a 20-year-old girl allegedly by Syed Farid Khan, who was lynched in the >March 5, 2015 mob violence , has been confirmed. Mr. Patton disclosed this in response to the claim by Khan’s family members that the girl was not raped and he was framed for his refusal to cough up illegal taxes. Briefing reporters on Monday evening, Mr. Patton said that the medical report had confirmed rape.

While blaming law enforcing agencies for lapses leading to the mob violence, Mr. Patton said there was no question of him resigning owning moral responsibility to the incident.

A one-man judicial inquiry commission is probing the incident. Appropriate actions will be taken up against indicted officials, he said. Three officials of Dimapur district have already been suspended for their alleged dereliction of duty, he added.
