BJP MLA Mangal Singh Soy today resigned as member of Jharkhand Assembly, requesting Chief Minister Arjun Munda to contest from his Kharsavan seat to enter the house within the stipulated six months.
“His resignation has been accepted,” Assembly Speaker C P Singh said here.
Speaking to newsmen, Mr. Soy said he resigned as he wanted Mr. Munda to contest from that seat.
The Chief Minister, however, has not yet revealed as from where he would contest even as he later held meeting with party state unit president Dineshanand Goswami.
With the resignation of Mr. Soy, the 82-member State Assembly has two vacant seats -the other being Hatia Assembly seat, which fell vacant after a Congress MLA passed away nearly six months ago.
A Lok Sabha member from Jamshedpur, Mr. Munda took oath on September 11 at the head of the BJP-led coalition and has to enter the house within six months after assuming the office.
Mr. Munda had won from Kharsawan assembly seat thrice and the BJP reportedly considers it as a safe seat for him.
JMM President Shibu Soren, whose traditional bastion has been Dumka, had lost Tamar bypoll on January 8, 2009, which forced him to resign from the post.
