Mizoram disburses rehabilitation package to Bru refugees

Mizoram government disbursed rehabilitation and resettlement package to 96 Bru families who recently returned to Mizoram from Naisingpara relief camp in neighbouring North Tripura district.

Officials of Mizoram -Tripura border Mamit district officials said that Rs 80,000 was given to each family and the distribution began from Thursday and the repatriated Bru families were from Kolalian, Tuipuibari, Damparengpui, Khanthuam, Bawngva and Damdiai villages in Mamit district.

More than 150 Bru families have returned to Mizoram during the third phase of repatriation which began from April 12 and the refugees lodged in Naisingpara relief camp, the largest camp, were accorded priority as a devastating fire ravaged the camp on March 19, killing 17 people and gutted more than 3,000 houses.
