The pressure on Manipur Minister of Sports, Irrigation and Flood Control N. Biren to quit over his son's alleged involvement in a boy's murder has eased as the Opposition chose not to raise it in the Assembly.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, also in charge of Home, tabled a written statement in the Assembly on Wednesday saying that N. Ajay (25), son of Mr. Biren, had confessed to the killing of Irom Rozer.

On Sunday, during Holi celebrations two groups quarrelled over the issue of one vehicle overtaking the other. Ajay and his four friends were riding a jeep belong to his father.

Locals pacified the groups. After a while Ajay allegedly whipped out his licensed M-20 gun and fired at Rozer. Ajay and his friends surrendered to police along with the hand gun, 6 rounds of live ammunition and the jeep.

Police said that investigation was almost complete as the accused were cooperative. Charge sheets would be filed against them shortly.
