Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia performed ‘sewa’ (religious service) at Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib in Anandpur on Tuesday as penance for including BJP leader Arun Jaitley’s name in a Sikh hymn written by Guru Gobind Singh.

He dusted shoes, washed utensils and listened to Gurbani Kirtan at the Takht.

The Minister is undergoing “tankhah” (penance) on the orders of the Akal Takht after the Jathedars of the five Takhts pronounced punishment on May 1. He was directed to undergo religious service at all five Takhts and the Akal Takht here.

The Sikh bodies had urged the Jathedar Akal Takht to hand severe punishment to Majithia so that nobody would dare repeat such a thing in future.
