Militants released two engineers from Kolkata on Sunday in a mountain area of Manipur. The two engineers of R.M. Singh Construction Company identified as Abhijit Sinha and Debojit Sinha were kidnapped by the tribal militants on Thursday evening along with two engineers and one driver of Irrigation and Flood Control Department and one local contractor. They had gone to Dolaithabi project in Imphal east district for inspection and the militants had intercepted them at Pukhao in Imphal east district.

Welcoming the release of the two engineers from Kolkata the Manipur Home Minister Gaikhangam Gangmei said that the government is making efforts to secure release of the remaining persons. It is immaterial whether formal complaints have been lodged by the family members. It is the duty of the government to secure their release. He was speaking in the one day political conference of the Congress party at Thangmeiband in Imphal on Sunday. He also appealed to the militants to release the other officials since they had gone there for implementing the development works.

Meanwhile one powerful foreign made bomb was detonated at Tengnoupal in Chandel district bordering Myanmar at 9 am on Sunday. The target was the personnel of 6 Dogra Regiment who were on foot patrolling in the mountain highway. Though the personnel escaped unscathed, one tribal villager sustained injuries. No militant organisation has claimed responsibility for the blast.
