A joint team of the Police and Army on Sunday busted a hideout of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (Songbijit) and recovered seven motorbikes and a car in the forest area close to the India-Bhutan border, about 15 km from Khaisiguri village under the Serfanguri police station in Kokrajhar district.

Inspector-General of Police (Bodoland Territorial Area District) L.R. Bisnoi told The Hindu that the hideout was over-run during an intensified operation.

In another incident, the police opened fire to disperse a mob which had come to torch houses in Damruguri Adivasi village under the Serfanguri police station, he said. Four persons were arrested.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi reviewed relief and rehabilitation measures, besides the security situation in the affected districts, a press release said.

Stating that rumour mongering was reported, particularly in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts, the State government appealed to all sections not to give credence to rumours and maintain peace and harmony.
