Militants on Friday opened fire at an Army convoy near a prominent hotel on outskirts of Srinagar killing a civilian and injuring two others, the first such attack since May.

The ultras opened indiscriminate firing on an Army convoy near a Silver Star hotel near Lasjan on Parimpora-Panthachowk bye-pass road at around 4.20 p.m., police said.

A bell boy of the four-star hotel, identified as Farooq Ahmad, and two other persons were injured in the firing by the militants, they said.

An Army vehicle was damaged in the militant attack but none of the security force personnel were harmed.

This is the first attack in the city since the firing on CRPF personnel at Khanyar in May this year.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to track down the militants.
