Meira Kumar faces her niece in Sasaram

Lok Sabha Speaker and daughter of Congress leader, the late Babu Jagjivan Ram, Meira Kumar is set to face competition in the Sasaram (SC) seat from her niece Medhavi Kirti, who will be contesting on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket.

On Tuesday, Ms. Kirti joined the BSP in New Delhi in the presence of party chief Mayawati, Bihar BSP president Bharat Bind told The Hindu . Ms. Kirti is the daughter of Jagjivan Ram’s son, the late Suresh Kumar.

Sasaram has been Meira Kumar’s bastion for two terms since the 2004 Lok Sabha polls.
