Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will address a special session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly here on October 21 on the occasion of the House’s golden jubilee celebrations.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Brij Bihari Lal Butail said all former members of the Assembly since 1952 — when it was a territorial council — and sitting MLAs would be invited.

The State, in its present form, came into existence in July 1963, said Mr. Butail, who is the 13th Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha. Gyan Singh Negi, 90, the oldest former member of the Assembly and father of Deputy Speaker Jagat Singh Negi, had agreed to attend the function, he said.
